Themed evening: The funding for Research and Development is increasing, how will the funding be divided?

  • Tieteiden talo, Kirkkokatu 6, Helsinki

A law that was completed at the end of last year determines an increase in research and development funding to 4% of the gross domestic product by 2030. Because the distribution of funding among different research and development areas is not specified in law, the situation remains open. During the fall, there have been discussions both in favor of businesses and innovation funding, and in favor of universities and basic research.

So the question remains, how will the funding be divided? You are warmly welcome to discuss the topic at a joint event organized by the Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters and the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters at Tieteiden talo in Helsinki on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

The speakers on the topic will include Paula Eerola, President of the Research Council of Finland, Riikka Heikinheimo, Director of the Confederation of Finnish Industries (EK), Keijo Hämäläinen, the Rector of the University of Tampere, and Ilkka Niiniluoto, academician and professor emeritus. The evening’s moderator will be Kari Raivio, Chancellor and professor emeritus.

The program is held in Finnish. Admission to the event is free, no registration is required.

The event will also be streamed, so the discussions can be followed remotely. Please find the streaming link HERE.
